The Culture Of The Kingdom: Bill Humphrey

I Did not write the following, I will quote from the book The Culture Of The Kingdom, a call to the sermon on the mount lifestyle. Authored by Billy Humphrey. This book is a prophetic all the examines the culture of the kingdom of God as compared with the culture of the Western Church.

"We Must ask God for grace to identify where we have brought into the subtleties of worldly mentalities and embraced them as the norm for the way we live. I propose that all the facets of our culture that are in opposition to the culture of the kingdom are authored by the spirit of the age. They are mentalities from which we must be delivered. Unless we embrace the kingdom of God and resist the spirit of the age, our society will never experience the manifest power of God."

-Billy Humphrey

Mr. Billy Humphrey does an amazing job in his book illustrating those very ideas of the fact the we as a western church are caught in the sway of the culture. I already see Christians standing up against this sway at my own church. Last Sunday at Crossroads Bible Church my youth pastor was speaking a message to the congregation on forgiveness. Which is a whole other topic in its self! Anyway during the sermon he declared what the Bible tells us about how the western culture is not ours if we claim to believe the Bible and claim it as our faith. God uses 1 Chronicles 29:15 educate this to us.

"We are here for only a moment, visitors and strangers in the land as our ancestors were before us. Our days on earth are like a passing shadow, gone so soon without a trace."

We should seriously take note to this, I mean we are in fact aliens and by saying that I mean our world is not here... Our kingdom is something more, its better, larger and displays wonder in every fashion. Our world is where the living God dwells and His love fills the space fully. But this does not mean sit and wait as aliens, God's word says "My Kingdom is now!" So as we sit soaking in apathetic attitude's we need to wake up to the knowledge everyday we are fighting against our flesh.

God does not leave us to do this alone we have church, this awesome community to help us meet the needs of one another. Even better when we display our passion to the Lord and let our hearts be captivated by Him and His word, more of the flesh will filter out. I'm Working on making it a point to choose His will daily and allow His still voice to speak to me during the day. When I make this choice it doesn't mean my day is perfect or well balanced . Actually it's usually harder and humbling in the fact He will open the door and say "Blake you know what I ask of you, now will you do it?". This places me in awkward situations, yet at the same time it is so good, because on earth should we not feel out of place? I mean we are aliens, strangers among this world.

In the chaos, in confusion
I know You're Sovereign still
In the moment of my weakness
You give me grace to do Your will
When You call I won't delay
This my song through all my days

My God is Big.

Hello.

Though it is a constant trail that seemingly affects us in our daily lives taking up the cross daily is something we need to do. Waking up and saying “I choose you Christ” is an awesome thing because our natural sinful hearts always want to parish with this world but in the mighty power of our savior we have sin already beat. Last week I went to the BBQ at the Rossman house in Grand Rapids. We had some burgers and pleasant conversation and than got into the word, or should I say the word got into us… We had a bible study of what it is that we should be doing as a component of our daily prayer lives, asking repeatedly in a non-double minded attitude and having an understanding in knowing our God says if you ask, all WILL be provided.

“This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”
- 1 John 5:14

People really are fighting to know his heart and hear his voice. All I can say at this point that is what I desire. To hear my father’s voice. To know my Kings requests and to be able to follow His will.
